Whenever India extends its hand of friendship to Pakistan, the reciprocation gesture never met the same standards so far. This has proven once again today, 2-January- 16, when five Pakistani based terrorists in Indian army fatigues. attacked Punjab’s Pathankot air base. On 25-December-2015, PM Narendra Modi had unscheduled visit to Pakistan on his return from Kabul to Delhi.

The reports emerged that the attack was started in the wee hours of around 3:30 AM resulting in exchange of fierce gun battle between the security personal and terrorists continued for over 12 hours until the last terrorist was neutralized. It is believed that three Air Force jawans were martyred in this exchange of fire.

Speaking on this terrorist attack, Home Minister, Rajnath Singh said, “Want peace with our neighbor but will give befitting reply to attacks.”

A high level meeting was attended by all three service chiefs, NSA head Ajith Doval and defence minister Manohar Parrikar to discuss the ongoing situation.

Following this terrorists attack, cities across the country were alerted and security was beefed up at all the sensible areas.

Ministry of Defence in its press statement said “Due to the effective preparation and coordinated efforts by all the security agencies a group of terrorists were detected by the aerial surveillance platforms as soon as they entered the Air Force Station at Pathankot. The infiltrators were immediately engaged and contained within a limited area, thus preventing them from entering the Technical zone where high value assets are parked.”

“Through timely and prompt action by all agencies, the likely plan of the terrorists to destroy valuable assets of the Air Force has been foiled”, it added.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Indian government has credible information that the terror attack in Pathankot was hatched by some elements in Pakistan.

Though the Pakistani government has condemned this terrorist attack, but questions are being rightly raised on its approach on the fight against terrorism and its roots spread across in it country.

However, by the time this is being reported the search operations are underway to sanitize the complete Air Force station.
